Temperature can make or break that dab you’re doing. Temperature can also dictate your cloud, how much concentrate you use, But how do you get that perfect temp using a water pipe, banger and torch?
A Daily Dabber
Some people may be surprised to hear that my very first dab was done on an e-rig in 2022. I had smoked cannabis on and off from the time I was 15. I have said in previous postings that I have used it for a combination of pain control and anxiety relief. My husband brough home the Focus V Carta. I thought it was the dumbest, most stupid thing I have ever seen or heard of. We smoked flower. Why would I need a dab rig that would cost that much money? It was insane to me when I could get a cheap glass piece from a shop. We had never even done a dab. Why would we need this ?!
I was hooked. I could do one hit, get the same high as I was getting after 2 bowls or a joint. So less cannabis consumed, better outcome with more pain relief and more anxiety control. Did I mention I could use less product? At Ohio pricing, the savings was substantial. And the taste? Ambrosia from the gods. It was pure heaven. We spent months figuring out temps we liked, what tasted best and loved every second. The more we smoked, the more we started looking at other products standard glass. We found the first glass dab rig in 2024.
Ohio Valley Glass
Our local smoke shop had one of the most beautiful, simple rigs from Ohio Valley Glass; we brought ours home on very cold day, right before a major snow storm. This meant that we would be tucking into our home for the next several days to do nothing more than relax with our new toy. We spent the entire day like we were kids again. We laughed and watched movies and ate crap like sleepovers of yesteryear. It will always be one of my favorite core memories. I will be doing a review of their products down the line and will be incorporating their art and work into many of my posts.
The Terp Timer
When you go from an e-rig that allows temperature setting/regulation to a rig with a torch- its very hard to gage temperature. How can you tell how hot the torch is? When you need something as hot as your oven to melt the wax, you get scared of burns. It’s almost like you are taking that metal cookie sheet out the oven- a hot, painful burn. Combine the fact that you are as high as a kite, it does not make for a good time. Subsequently burning yourself after a high is not fun.
Enter- The Terp Timer. The next best thing in temp control. I have seen the Dab Rite but couldn’t afford the price tag. This little guy is $50 to $80 on sale. Right now he’s $57 and change.
I do not have this lined up. You will line up the infrared laser with the middle of your banger for accurate readings.
How it works:
The first thing you will want to do is make sure you heat up your banger. I typically take a minute to make sure the sides heat up, the bottom, etc. Then I turn on the little guy and set him under the banger. Since this piece of technology can be set to your preferred dab temp, the screen will light up green and if you have it set, the signal will beep. Next, you will drop your dab in and hit.
Like I said above, this machine has an infrared light that monitors your temps through your dab. Best part, it works with almost every single rig. That means that you never have to take a too hot dab again. Therefore, you will use less product which saves you money. It’s like finding a new puck or getting a bogo at the dispo.
Also, as much as it is an old wives tale, how altered you get, how quickly and easily depends on a couple factors.
Why is matters?
Everyone I know who likes to smoke always seems to complain about one thing very quickly. The product gets more expensive and you constantly need more and more to achieve your ultimate goals. You get used to one strain or two and you built a tolerance. As that tolerance grows, so does your cannabis bill. Doing something as simple as changing from a straight pipe to a recycler can make that difference. Funny enough, going from 420 to 500F can also bring that change. Furthermore, changing your strain often can also help.
Writing this, I am smoking a home grow Purple Punch. Furthermore, I have a wonderful Skittles that I love to smoke before bed. There is an Alaskan Thunderfuck in my bug out bag for travel. There are so many strains that produce wonderful flavor and wonderful high. You aren’t going to smoke the same thing to go to bed as you would to be creative.
The next time you feel you need a “T Break,” change how you do something. You always use an e-rig? Try another one or try a standard dab rig and torch. You may find you get what you need by changing something up more frequently.
